Indian Prairie School District 204’s Story of Success
Indian Prairie School District 204 decided to replace its legacy student information system after more than a decade with the same system.
“At the time, the system was something that met the needs. But, it had become very limiting in terms of contemporary reporting capabilities and its ability to integrate with other systems,” says Stan Gorbatkin, assistant superintendent of technology services.
A Search with High Expectations
According to Gorbatkin, the district began its search for a new student information system with high expectations.
Indian Prairie sought a system with robust functionality—one that featured an integrated gradebook, offered flexible reporting and scheduling options, and provided user-friendly access to parents. The district also wanted an integrated special education management system for efficiently handling the entire special education process.

“We evaluated a number of products, and our decision came down to overall balance and strength across all of the areas,” Gorbatkin explains. “We wanted a software solution that was aligned with current needs and would keep evolving.”

“SunGard’s customer support is very strong,” he says. “Obviously every implementation is different and we’re a pretty large district, so we needed to reach out and rely on SunGard folks for support. Their technical expertise and knowledge of the product are strengths. And, they understand our sense of urgency.”
Gorbatkin says the response throughout the district has been positive.
“We’ve gotten good feedback on the capabilities of the product. Parents, teachers, support staff, administrators, and others who support student learning really have enjoyed seeing the robust functionality and the real-time information about students,” says Gorbatkin. “The system is intuitive for the users. It has really good advanced search capabilities and flexibility in manipulating and accessing data.”
With increased functionality, the possibilities for the district are greatly expanded.
“Our staff’s eyes have really been opened in terms of what a robust student information system can do,” he says. “We definitely have more information at the fingertips of more staff. It really helps support student learning.”
